April 18, 2012According to industry reports the mobile and social networking applications market is going to grow manifold and create a plethora of job opportunities by 2015. It is a good time to get cracking on the app front, says SANGEETA YADAV
With the advancement in technology, various career options have emerged in the field of mobile applications. From managing personal and professional work to booking tickets, getting flight and banking updates, paying bills and availing services to managing healthcare, all this and much more is now available on the smart handset and has made lives easier and faster.
There is little wonder then that more and more youngsters are looking at this industry for employment options.
Looking at the current scenario of the mobile application market, there is no doubt that this industry is going to grow leap and bounds. According to trade pandits, the mobile apps market is on an upward spiral and will be able to generate a lot of revenue with billions of downloads from direct sales, app purchases and mobile app advertising. The numbers are only going to grow.
According to a recent survey done by the International Data Corporation by the end of the year 2015, almost 182.7 billion mobile apps will be downloaded, close to a 1600 per cent increase from the 10.7 billion apps downloaded in 2010. This can also be attributed to the increase in smart phones and social networking apps-both free and paid.
“Mobile as a technology is at its peak compared to all other industries and apps are becoming the driving force of this technology. Earlier there was a dot com bubble where countless Internet companies witnessed a spiraling stock prices and investments.
“Now it is the mobile generation. But the only difference is that this mobile industry is here to stay. This brings a lot of new opportunities for students. Summer vacations are the best time to enroll for short term apps development courses,” says Surya Gogineni, director of Geniusport, which offer mobile application development training courses.
Applications are developed using familiar java and eclipse tools. Core skill set would be a hands-on knowledge of C++ for iPhone Apps development, core java for android apps development, dot net and C sharp for windows apps development.
Those who have no knowledge of these software programmes but have a good creative bent of mind can also look forward for a career option in this field.
After completion of the course, students can work as smart-phone mobile application developers. One can get a plumb job as junior mobile application developer, mobile application tester or mobile application engineer.
“If you don’t have knowledge about applications but you have a creative idea, you can register yourself at Blackberry training programmes which are available at various institutes and colleges. Our main target is tier 2 and tier 3 cities where there is little or no access to computers.
Our motto is to try and reach out to that area and provide training at various colleges. We also conduct programmes to attract students to use their creativity and create new applications. BB summit is one such programme where students create apps through flash programming. Then there are Blackberry apps clinic and base 2012 contests conducted for engineering level students to build applications. One can also create his/her own app and sell it to the mobile phone companies or you can also start your own apps company and teach interested students in institutes. Interested candidates can also build their own app for smartphones, playbook et al from Blackberry developer platform available at our website,” Annie Mathew, head of alliances, Research In Motion (RIM), India, tells you.
But when it comes to learning application development for mobile phones, social networking sites are not left out from the race. “Apps now-a-days are more influential than the power of networking through popular social networking sites.
Social networking apps grew by almost 250 per cent during the period April 2009-April 2011. The trend towards out sourcing the management and development of apps to a third-party has increased dramatically, picking up the employment scenario. The market for social media apps has directly created more than 50,000 new jobs and the software companies that design the apps indirectly created at least an additional 130,000 jobs in 2011. And no surprise that computer software engineers’ applications are one of the 10 fastest growing jobs today,” says Yogesh Bansal, Founder and CEO, ApnaCircle.com.
After completing the course, students can earn on the basis of their creativity. The salary starts anywhere from Rs2.5 lakhs per annum to Rs4.5 lakhs per annum.
